Aussies caught up in Fiji poisoning

Two Australians hospitalised in a suspected mass alcohol poisoning are on their way home as Fiji reassures tourists of their safety. Another two Australians are among a total of seven people hospitalised, and the federal government is providing consular assistance to two families. It comes after two Australians died in Laos from a suspected mass ethanol poisoning. The father and grandfather of two of the Australians, David Sandoe, said his daughter Tanya and her daughter Georgia had been discharged from hospital and received confirmation they were medically fit to travel.

Fifth tourist dies in Laos incident

A British woman who fell ill after drinking contaminated alcohol in Laos has died, the fifth foreign national now suspected to have died in the incident. British media reported that 28-year-old Simone White, a lawyer from southeast London, was among the tourists who died after consuming drinks laced with methanol, a toxic alcohol. “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Laos, and we are in contact with the local authorities,“ Britain’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
