It's double trouble at this Welsh farm.

Donkey foals Eddie and Edith were a very special delivery.

The farm's owners look after rescue animals.

Late last year, they took in two neglected donkeys, Mocha and Cocoa.

"They were not in the state they're in now. Their coats were all flat. They weren't very trusting of people, but over time we've managed to get them into a better place with some patience because donkeys are quite stubborn," says Izzy Field, from Bunkhill Farm.

In January, the farm discovered both animals were pregnant.

But when one of the donkeys went into labour, Field realised something quite extraordinary was happening.

"Then all of sudden just checked the camera one night and there's two! It was so emotional because we were expecting one and then when two came out and were both alive as well, which was a big thing, because for them both to come alive out is huge, it was so emotional," she says.

Twin donkeys are extremely rare.

"Close to 40 years I've been working as a vet, and I've never seen twins in donkeys," says Dr Andrew Clements, from Fishguard Veterinary Services Ltd.

"So the chances of two healthy donkeys surviving is about 1 in 10,000, so it's a very, very rare event."

Babies Edith and Edie have every chance of a healthy and happy life in the Pembrokeshire countryside.
