The Best-Run Dictatorship in History

In many ways Singapore is a pretty small country. Out of all of the 195 UN member states and observers Singapore is ranked as only the 176th largest country – only 736 square km, Singapore is smaller in land size than even New York City.

But just like New York is, Singapore is a very densely populated place and it's really the only true functioning city-state that exists today.

In the modern world there are roughly 6 million people who call Singapore their home, which is large for a city but still pretty small for a country.

But with a nominal GDP of $548 billion as of 2025, Singapore is astonishingly the world's 26th largest economy today ranking its economic size far, far higher up than it's geographic and human sizes.

The Libyan Dam Collapse Disaster

On September 11, 2023 a once- in-a-thousand-year storm dumped an unprecedented level of rainfall across eastern Libya. It rapidly filled up the reservoirs behind two dams placed along a seasonal river that led into the Libyan city of Durna, which at that time had a population of around 90,000 people. One after the other, the enormous water loads placed on each of the dams proved too much for them to bear, leading to their catastrophic failures, which send a titanic surge of water tumbling down through the valley directly toward the city as if it were a tsunami.

Ukraine offers its front line as test bed for foreign weapons

Ukraine will let foreign arms companies test out their latest weapons on the front line of its war against Russia’s invasion, Kyiv’s state-backed arms investment and procurement group Brave1 said. Under the “Test in Ukraine” scheme, companies would send their products to Ukraine, give some online training on how to use them, then wait for Ukrainian forces to try them out and send back reports, the group said in a statement. ”It gives us understanding of what technologies are available. It gives companies understanding of what is really working on the front line,“ Artem Moroz, Brave1’s head of investor relations, said at a defence conference in Wiesbaden, Germany.
