Creating an Ocean

This documentary follows the construction of a gigantic marine life sanctuary in China: a glass and metal structure that can hold a 100-million-litre ocean.

Ocean Kingdom, the world’s biggest aquarium, is on the island of Hengqin, next to Macao.

There is not a single place that resembles this dream factory, in terms of construction site size, architectural type or scale, number of marine species on show or in estimated volume of visitors.

It took teamwork from experts around the world to piece together a real architectural engineering puzzle.

The giant aquarium alone has already broken several records. It has the largest number of whale sharks in captivity as well as various stingrays such as giant manta rays.

It's home to no less than 20,000 fish and about 5000 different species.

This film covers four years of exceptional work, innovations and technical achievement together with top-notch logistics.

It also shows how each animal has been introduced to its new habitat as well as the amazing work of those in charge of taking care of these animals.
